What is surrogacy? The definition of surrogacy is: The process of giving birth as a surrogate mother or of arranging for another women to carry and give birth to a baby for you/ a couple who want to have a child. There is a contract that should be drawn up stating the legal responsibilities of the surrogate and the specifics as to when the child is born if the surrogate will have any visitation rights or if they will relinquish all legal parental rights over the child. Issue Surrogacy is becoming more popular as time goes by however there are several legal as well as ethical issues coming up when people use a surrogate or are looking into the topic. Who might want to hire or use a surrogate? There are many different reasons as to who and why someone may want to use a surrogate to carry a child for them. Some of the most common reasons include couples who maybe have had complications and end up miscarrying, couples who it would be dangerous for the mother to be to carry a child or go through child birth, and even gay/lesbian couples who want to have children.
